Combat

An extraterrestrial humanoid from the planet Katella, Combat is a fierce warrior trained in the Katellan military tradition. He traded technology for asylum after escaping Katella and became a member of Youngblood. Like all Katellans, Combat is impervious to fire and cold and possesses strength and endurance well in excess of normal humans.

Very little is publicly known about Combat’s life before he joined Youngblood. He is a member of the Katallans, a race of technologically advanced and physically formidable extraterrestrials. He arrived on Earth under undisclosed circumstances and was eventually recruited into the Youngblood program as part of the International “Away Team” to handle global threats that required extreme physical force.

Despite his alien origins, Combat has demonstrated a strict code of honor and loyalty to his teammates, often putting himself in the direct line of fire to protect them.

Combat was created by artist and writer Rob Liefeld, making his first appearance in Youngblood #1 in April 1992. Like several other original Youngblood members, Combat was originally conceived as part of Liefeld’s 1991 pitch for a new Teen Titans series at DC Comics, where he was intended to be a re-imagined version of Starfire. When the project moved to Image Comics, the character was redesigned into the muscular, blue-armored warrior known today.

Combat has remained one of the most consistent members of the International Team. While other teammates have come and gone or faced public scandals, Combat has stayed focused on his role as a soldier. His narrative often touches on his “fish out of water” status as an alien on Earth, though he rarely speaks, letting his actions in battle define his character.

• Master Combatant: True to his codename, he is an expert in various forms of armed and unarmed combat, often utilizing massive energy-edged swords or heavy artillery.
• Katallan Biology: His alien nature grants him faster-than-human reflexes and a much higher threshold for physical trauma.
